Judge's Comments:

Best of Show:
"The skilled use of color and brush stroke techniques bring this oil painting to life. When viewing the painting, contrasting values control the eye movement from the bold vegetables to the soft leafy background. Creativity and application make "Colors of a Harvest" an outstanding piece."

3-D 1st Place:
"The artist was able to capture a life-like facial expression in this metal pour. This outstanding piece allows viewers to experience a variety of emotions."

Acrylic 1st Place:
"The artist suggested the essence of the peacock by using the crisp edges of the peacock's head and neck against the soft edges of the tail feathers creating depth in the painting. Good use of complementary colors places emphasis on the subject and controls the focus of the viewer."

Oil 1st Place:
"The strength of this painting is the contrast created by the darker valued hair against the light values of the face. The contrast directs the focus on her stunning eyes. The multi-colored flowers create additional emphasis of her lips and eye colors. The skilled blending of the hair with the muted background color makes this a quality painting."

Pastel 1st Place:
"The artist has captured the "Evening Stillness" in this pastel. The beauty of the cool colors is enhanced with the slight touch of warmth. The artistic skill is exemplified with the hard and soft edges created in the drawing."

Photography 1st Place:

"The composition of the photo and focus on the colorful aspects of the duck contrasting the neutral tones from the water capture the moment fantastically."

Watercolor 1st Place:
"Incorporating the grain of the wood with the wet washes and dry brush created a beautiful painting. The artist skillfully uses transparent techniques in the wood grain to bring the subject to life."

Judge: Tom Panger

Life experiences are reflected in works of artist Tom Panger. His inspiration kindled by childhood memories spent in the Taos area of Northern New Mexico and the flat open spaces of the Texas Plains. Much of his work reflects the natural beauty of the land. The depiction of nature and natural settings radiates the feelings which influenced his style. Preferring to work with watercolor, water-based mixed media, and pastel, Panger varies the techniques to achieve fascinating effects that are harmonious with his subjects.
