Acrylic Painting (Friday pm)


Description

Level: Intermediate to Advanced This class is taught by award-winning artist Michael Longhofer. Michael’s work has been seen in Texas Highways Magazine, and he has been commissioned by American Express and Baylor Health Care. Students will learn how to paint from still life and photos, apply and mix color, create depth and texture, and learn tips, tricks and shortcuts for creating beautiful art. Ages 16 + What to Bring: If this is your first painting class, come to class with a canvas and supplies (brushes and paint) you might have on hand. Purchase materials after coming a few times and deciding on what will best fit you personally. You can always upgrade later. Below is a list of instructor favorites. Definitions: Sizes: 0-24, 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, oversize and so on Styles: long and short handles Shapes: filbert, bright, flat, round, and fan Types for acrylic: bristle/hog hair, synthetic, and blends Textures: soft, medium, firm and hard Suggested brushes: a. Size 1 and 4 round b. Size 2 and 12 flat c. Size 3 and 6 bright or filbert d. Size 4 fan 1. 3 aty 16x20 canvases (can be canvas board or masonite, canvases multipacks) 2. Q-tips 1 box 3. 1 qty inexpensive 2 inch flat brush 4. 2 qty different shaped palette knives for mixing paint 5. 1 qty palette (can be piece of glass or styrofoam plate too) 6. 203 qty inexpensive containers, coffee cans, or jars for holding water/brushes 7. white rags 8. Golden Acrylic Retarder smallest size 9. Acrylic Paint (many different brands, get what fits your budget, I recommend Golden or Liquitex professional quality) Colors: a. Titanium White b. Mars or Bone Black c. Burnt Umber d. Lemon Yellow (cool yellow) e. Cadmium Yellow Medium (warm yellow) f. Alizarin Crimson or Magenta (cool red) g. Cadmium Red Medium (warm red) h.
