Service Description

We will be discussing and drawing simplified portraits: Portrait: (n) a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders. Cartoon: (v) Make a drawing of (someone) in a simplified or exaggerated way. In this workshop, we will be covering how to construct a stylized portrait using a combination of methods, including Loomis and Reilly. We will be focusing on simplification during construction to avoid overcomplicating the solution. This allows for portraits to be drawn quickly and precisely, allowing for easy adjustment along the way. This also gives the artist ample opportunity to adjust the process to make something more and more stylized. This approach to drawing portraits allows the artist to produce a work of high realism or a simple Sunday-style cartoon, depending on how much you strip away from the process and simplify. description We will be considering the structure and proportion of a mannequin portrait model in 3 views: direct, 3/4, and profile. We will learn the base set of proportions that all faces are based on and then begin to describe those proportions with planes. Keeping it simple, we will model comic book-esque portraits with semi-realistic proportions. We will also be considering the types of features available to us, in which we have a lot of potential options and styles to choose from. I will cover some of my techniques in developing these different structures while constructing our portraits. ending statement This is the technique that I use to develop all of my portraits, be it a 15-minute live sketch or 20-hour painting. It has full control over every possible angle and any sort of perspective grid. It takes a lot of practice to get a handle on these techniques, but a little bit of learning will go a long way.
