Description

This class is designed to cover the fundamentals and experience the playfulness of watercolor. Watercolor can be daunting, but the six classes will focus on instruction, techniques, analyzing other watercolor works, and painting. Our class will be very relaxed and fun, full of experimentation, and time to paint. There will be no expectations of painting perfection. The goal is to have everyone have a good time and have fun painting. Supply List: Watercolor paper-I recommend good quality paper. I use New York Central 140# sheets or block to practice new concepts, it is very reasonable and performs well. Saunders Waterford, Arches or Fabriano 140# Cold Press are great too. I use SW 140# cold press We’ll paint on ¼ sheets or 11 x 14. 10-15 sheets will be plenty. Stretching Board-Gatorboard, Masonite, old election signs. At least 12x16” Masking Tape-1” Scotch brand or artist’s tape Small spritzer spray bottle Watercolor palette- any kind is fine, white dinner plates or plastic palettes are great. Paper towels Brushes-We will use primarily round brushes. You’ll need a small (4-6), medium (8-10) and large (12-14) synthetic. I use Master Touch and they are great for beginning. They don’t have to be expensive, but you will be frustrated with cheap brushes. You’ll also need a couple of squirrel mop brushes #2 and #4. You’ll need a large flat wash/hake brush. Paint – Please do not purchase student grade paint, often identified as Academy. Michaels carries Winsor Newton, but Hobby Lobby has its own brand. I use Winsor Newton, Cheap Joe’ and Daniel Smith, if you have not purchased tube paint, you may wait until the first day of class and we will discuss, and I will share with you until you can purchase or order your own. This is a good start, fear not with these tubes you can mix almost any color needed. French Ultramarine Blue Cerulean Blue Alizarine Crimson Cadmium Red Hansa Yellow Light New Gamboge Burnt Sienna Raw Sienna I order from Cheap Joe’s, Jerry’s Artarama, Amazon, Blick Art Materials and St. Louis Art Supply.
