Do you enjoy immersing yourself in nature and developing an outdoor oil painter's vision? Kelly is passionate about both and sharing her enthusiasm for capturing the landscape on location. Kelly will demonstrate her simplified approach including setting an intention, composition, and color temperature. After each demo, students will practice the approach on their own. The last day will include a final group critique. As the French call it "plein air" will accelerate your studio painting skills quicker. Prerequisite: Drawing skills, Oil Painting skills & Color Mixing skills Inclement Weather Be advised if we have to go indoors for a day. 2024 Workshop Supply List Preparation is crucial for an outdoor painter. Set up, get familiar with your gear, and paint outdoors before we meet so you will be able to concentrate on the practice. ____ Outdoor Easel (I use an Open Box M or a Day Tripper easel with best quality tripod) ____ Outdoor Umbrella if you have one, if not , shade will work (Guerrilla Shadebuddy or Best Brella) ____ Quality bristle brushes (filberts or flats) two #10/three #6/three #4/one #3 As long as the brushes are clean, sharp and springy to apply thick or thin paint. Recommended: Richard Simmons Signet, Silver Brush Grand Prix. (I love Escoda short filberts: Spain sizes are different 12, 14 & 16 from Dick Blick) ____ Oil primed panels in a variety of small sizes: Four -6x8” Two -8x10” Two- 9x12” One-11x14” Ramar work great. (I do not use canvases on stretchers outdoors) Whichever surface you prefer: canvas or linen (I use oil-primed linen) ____ Wet Panel carrier or empty pizza boxes ____”Gamsol” Odorless Mineral Spirits ____ Small metal container with lid that doesn’t leak to hold your Gamsol ____ Palette: Oil Paint- Warm and Cool of each Primary and a set of transparent secondaries. Buy the Best Quality you can afford. (my brand) ___ Cadmium Yellow Lemon (Winsor and Newton) ___ Cadmium Yellow Medium (Winsor and Newton) ___ Cadmium Red Light (Grumbacher Pre-Tested) ___ Rose Madder or Alizarin (Winsor and Newton) ___ Cerulean Blue (Winsor and Newton) ___ Ultramarine Blue(Rembrandt) ___ Cad Green Light (Grumbacher Pre-Tested) ___ Transparent Orange (Gamblin) ___ Titanium White (Gamblin or Winsor and Newton) ____ Palette Knife, Palette Scraper to clean palette ____ Brush Clip that holds brushes onto an easel ____ Cloth sack or small trash bag and clamp so you can fasten it down tight onto your easel
